Painting the exterior of a house with an Airless paint sprayer using smooth Masonry paint is much quicker than using brushes and rollers.

Our client Wagner wanted a video to show all the steps needed to spray paint a house using their SuperFinish 23 airless paint sprayer.

In the video we cover everything in the process, including the initial preparations and cleaning of the surface, which is very important to get a good finish which both looks great and will last for years to come. Loose paint, dirt, algae and moss were then scrubbed with a wire brush. If the wall has a lot of algae, you can use a proprietary cleaning solution and ideally jet wash the surface. Fill any holes in the wall surface with an exterior filler. Once dry, sand down the filler or alternatively you can use a roller to create a stippled surface which is similar to textured masonry paint. After you have thoroughly prepared and cleaned the surface, allow the wall and filler to dry for 24-48 hours prior to spraying it. This will ensure the wall is ready and allows for the best possible paint adhesion and coverage.

Protect all plants by covering them with a dust sheet and protect the ground from any overspray with old cardboard. Wearing proper safety equipment including eyewear, gloves and a mask is essential. Apply the first coat, starting at the top of the wall and work your way down or spray from left to right. Release the trigger at the bottom of the wall. Work systematically up and down across the wall, overlapping each spray pass by approximately 30%. Keep the spray gun 15–20cms from the surface and move at a steady pace. This will help you maintain a smooth, even finish and will avoid applying too much paint. If you produce any runs or drips, simply wipe them off with a heavy rag or thick paper towel before the material dries, and re-spray that section. Allow the first coat to dry thoroughly according to the paint manufacturer’s recommendations (approx. 2-4 hours at 20° C). Then repeat the process and apply the second coat. Once dry, the project is finished.
